Nalini Saligram, Ph.D. is founder & CEO of Arogya World (arogyaworld.org), a global health non-profit committed to changing the course of chronic disease. She is an Ashoka Fellow.
Under Nalini’s leadership, Arogya World designs and implements scalable, science-based diabetes prevention programs in Indian schools, workplaces, and the community. After completing mDiabetes, the groundbreaking 1-million-person diabetes prevention mHealth program, and getting impact results published, Arogya’s team has worked hard to get 79 companies with total employee base of 2 million, to become Healthy Workplaces. New for 2016 is the Platinum Healthy Workplace award, which helps companies measure the business benefits from employee health. The organization has also developed myArogya, a mobile App for chronic disease prevention for working Indians.
A tireless advocate for NCD prevention, Nalini leverages public-private partnerships and global platforms to improve the world we live in. Arogya World has made multiple Clinton Global Initiative Commitments (2011, 2013, 2016), a United Nations Every Woman Every Child Commitment (2014) and was finalist for Drucker Award for Nonprofit Innovation (2014).
Nalini has lived and worked in many parts of the world, including Merck in Philadelphia, Merial in Atlanta, Glaxo Wellcome in London, and Hill & Knowlton in Hong Kong.
Nalini has a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, serves on the Dean’s Council at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, is a charter member of TiE Midwest. She serves as Co-Chair of the Taskforce on Women & NCDs, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Alliance for Food & Health. She is based in Chicago and Bangalore.
